ART AT THE ARMORY

The Armory at Brighton Cultural Center is honored to display the work of eight regionally and nationally known artists during the months of July and August 2010, with an exhibit featuring Colorado-based members of the Colored Pencil Society of America.

The Armory doors are open from 9:00am-4:00pm every Monday through Friday, so everybody will have the opportunity to see the amazing work of these very talented artists!!

Dorothy DePaulo
From earliest childhood, it was always Dorothy's dream to be an artist, but it wasn't until she had worked many years as a registered nurse that she had the opportunity to attend the Colorado Institute of Art, where she majored in graphic design. Since that time, she has worked freelance as a muralist, a portraitist, and an illustrator of a children's book and paper dolls for Doll Reader and Teddy Bear Magazines.

Ed Eastman
Ed took up drawing in his retirement, and works primarily in colored pencil, although he also works with ink, watercolor, charcoal, and black and white. His favorite subjects come from nature and the outdoors. A quadriplegic since the age of 21, Ed often shows with the Very Special Artists of Colorado (VSAC), a non profit organization celebrating the power of the arts have made in the lives of individuals with disabilities

Cynthia Haase
Cindy's lifelong love of art began as a small child, with a box of pastels and some art books. Her art education has been self-directed, studying with some of the best artists in the colored pencil and pastel mediums. Her work incorporates her love of dramatic lighting, and edges are often used to create depth and atmosphere.

Ann McDougal
Ann graduated from the Community College of Denver with a degree in Photography and went on to receive a BA from Metro State in Graphic Design, with an emphasis in Marketing. She now works in both photography and colored pencils; her architectural photography in the Denver area has earned several awards, and her colored pencil piece "One" earned an "Outstanding Achievement" at the 2004 CPSA National Convention.

Heather McGarey
Heather earned a BFA from the University of Colorado and has studied in New York at the Art Student's League and the School of Visual Arts. She is a Signature member of the Colored Pencil Society of America, is the past president of the Denver District Chapter of the Colored Pencil Society and has been in numerous juried shows including five international colored pencil exhibitions.

Bob Rice
After retiring from a career in the Aerospace industry, Bob decided to take up graphic arts as a hobby. His favorite media is the use of watercolor pencil on synthetic paper such as Mylar or Yupo. Bob also uses the more standard wax-based pencils and sometimes adds india inks for fine lines as needed. His works reflect a more impressionistic style rather than a photo-realistic mode.

Heidi Snyder
Born and raised in Germany, Heidi has resided in Colorado for over 30 years. Her love for the Rocky Mountain area and the spirit of the West helped foster close attention to detail, light and mood as indicative of glimpses into the eternal and she tries to capture those elements in her pencil art.

Jack Carter Thompson
A Denver East High School graduate, Jack Carter Thompson went on to become first a US Marine, then a professor of American History, a radio host for Northwestern University, and finally—an artist. He has studied at Cal State, the Evanston (Illinois) Art Center, and at the Colorado Academy of Art. Jack’s use of line, shape, color, and contrast in his pieces shows that an artist has been inside him all these years, patiently waiting for the opportunity to create, while Jack himself admired the power and response to OTHER artists’ drawings in evoking responses that viewers sometimes happily recognize, sometimes aren’t quite aware of, and sometimes never quite confess

The Armory would like to thank all of the artists that have shown their work in the Theatre since the Grand Opening of the facility in October 2009.
